In line with the efforts of Damascus Petrochemical Refinery Company to support the educational process, convey the scientific, technical, and applied knowledge to the university academic community, and provide consultations and specialized scientific services to the company, in addition to enhancing students’ experiences and encouraging them to scientific research, the Refinery and Al-Baath University signed a joint scientific cooperation agreement at the university presidency building in Homs city. 

Rector of Al-Baath University, Dr. Abdul Basit Al-Khatib, stressed the importance of the agreement which aims to document the frameworks of scientific, university and Knowledge cooperation, benefit from scientific expertise, and help students apply theoretical information in an academic practical manner, particularly in the fields of oil and gas, as al-Baath University is unique in its Faculty of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering among Syrian universities, pointing out to al-Baath University’s constant endeavors to cooperate with national institutions in all fields to serve the nation and society.

Director General of Damascus Petrochemical Refinery Company, Dr. Samer Abu Ammar, for his part,  said that the agreement hosts  students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, enabling them to benefit from the company’s sites, fields and laboratories to apply or develop their scientific research.

Abu Ammar added that the Refinery is greatly concerned with the environmental dimension, getting rid of factory wastes and converting them into industrial products that create added value to the national economy and manufacturing alternative products for imports, in addition to the Refinery’s interest in scientific research and working to develop products in the company or other factories to become of high quality that can be used in our daily life and have clean environment. 

According to the agreement, the two sides will cooperate in the fields of research, joint scientific activities and training by implementing joint basic and applied scientific research in the field of environmental development and holding joint training courses to serve the qualification of cadres from both sides and training and qualifying students in the first university stage within the Refinery in various fields of common interest.

The agreement, which will last for five years, also guarantees the holding of workshops, lectures and seminars under the supervision and coordination of both sides, the reception of master’s students (Environment – Operations – Refining – Polymers) and participation in supervising their research and experiments that take place at the refinery, in addition to holding scientific competitions and saving the winning articles to collect and publish them in a book to be distributed free of charge to the college offices.

The signing of agreement ceremony was attended by Vice Rector of Al-Baath University Dr. Nidal Sattouf, Dr. Maan Salama, Dr. Ahmed Muhanna, , Secretary of the University Dr. Fadi Murshid,  and Director of Development and Scientific Research at the company Dr. Marwan Amer.
