Awareness event for the refinery in one of the schools in al-Qteifa
Damascus Petrochemical Refinery Company, in cooperation with the teaching staff at Martyr Saleh Ayush School in al-Qteifa region in Damascus countryside held an awareness event about caring for environmental cleanliness and waste recycling.
During the event, Teacher Jocelyn Awad, presented an educational paragraph in which she explained extensively the importance of the environment for our lives, preserving it and its resources, and how to take care of it through practicing good activities, with examples of the causes of water, land and air pollution and its negative effects on the environment and people.
Teacher Jocelyn noted the Refinery’s role in preserving the environment and reducing pollution by recycling used mineral oils to produce new oils and products that can be used again.
// Competition and qualitative projects for students //.
The Refinery held a qualitative competition for students, in which questions related to the environment varied, including pollutants and how to treat and dispose of them. The competition was welcomed by students who showed great interaction and awareness of how to preserve the environment and benefit from waste recycling to reduce its pollution. This was accompanied by the awarding of financial prizes to the winning students.
A number of students presented projects related to the environment and its protection. Student Khaled Harourah presented an experiment in making organic fertilizer from animal waste and dry and green herbs.
Student Bishr Shihada recited a poem about the beauty and importance of the environment and the correlation between it and man. //
Within the Refinery’s awareness event, the company’s representatives honored the staff of the educational complex in Qteifa, the school’s administration, teachers and the hygiene officer for their efforts to maintain the school’s cleanliness and educate students about the importance of cleanliness.

Mr. Mahdi Al-Ansari, The general inspector of the Refinery and the accompanying staff inspected a recycling exhibition that included handicrafts made by students in which they relied on paper, cardboard, plastic and metal cans that they recycled to benefit from them again in different ways.
Later, the students participating in the exhibition were honored by giving them in-kind sums of money to encourage them and appreciate their ideas, which they tried to translate through waste recycling.
Following that, representatives of the refinery provided aid to the school, which included waste baskets of various sizes, in addition to a loudspeaker device (with an MP3 + microphone).

In a statement to the Refinery , Mr. Ziad Abdel-Rahman, the educational supervisor in al-Qterifa region and the director of the educational complex there, welcomed the staff of the refinery in the educational complex within the framework of the continuous cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Education, the local community, public and private companies.
Mr. Abdel-Rahman pointed out to the importance of the distinguished activities carried out by the refinery and its positive impact on the environment and students in order to preserve the environment, hoping The Refinery’s activities would continue in al-Qteifa region.
In turn, the educational director and a member of Damascus Countryside Teachers’ Syndicate Branch, the Education Office, Ms. Hunaida al-Sheikha said that the event is wonderful and thanked the representatives of the refinery for their visit to the school, expressing her happiness with this step and the importance of the activities that the refinery held in the school.
Teacher Hanan Maqat, Director of Martyr Saleh Ayush School, thanked the Refinery for visiting the school and for the activities that were carried out and contributed to teaching the students about recycling, and that the neglected things can be used again, pointing to the efforts exerted by the teachers in the school to make these activities a success because of their usefulness to spread awareness among students and transform their behavior positively by taking advantage of the waste they can throw away.
Ms. Malqat thanked Chairman of the Board of Directors of Damascus Refinery Company, Mr. Ahmad al-Ansari, the Administration and the Director of Public Relations for that coordination, hoping for more cooperation with the refinery next time.
Innovations for Students Relying on Recycling
The students participating in the recycling exhibition talked about the materials they created from recycling waste, as student Mohammad Haydar said that he participated in the exhibition with a pencil case made of paper, cardboard and plastic, which he used to keep his pens when studying.
In turn, student Ibrahim Bakr added that he recycles paper, cardboard, and plastic to make toys, decorations, and cups at home instead of buying them to save money.
Student Mohammad al-Hafiri participated through a plastic package, which he punctured, and placed a small plastic tube, using silicone to fix it, in addition to cardboard and a plastic cup.
The Ministry of Education in the Syrian Arab Republic and Damascus Petrochemical Refinery Company, on April 29th , signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at increasing the culture of environmental awareness for students towards their surroundings in order to reach a clean green environment, based on the importance of linking education with national institutions, and supporting all educational activities for pupils and students in public schools.
