Honoring winners of the green competition
At the auditorium of the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Sciences in Damascus University , Damascus Petrochemical Refinery Company honored the winning students of the green competition, announced on September 27 of last year.
During the celebration, Dean of the College of Sciences, Dr. Hammoud al-Orabi, said that through the competition, the Refinery contributed to laying the foundations and pillars for building a good relationship between students and external institutions on the one hand, and providing scientific and material support that encourages students on the other hand.
Orabi added that the support provided by the company through the competition to the students encourages them to research more within the university level and gain further progress, and this honoring raises the morale of the students.
“I thank the Refinery for this initiative and I hope that there will be continuous steps for such competitions,” Orabi said.
Honoring winners of the green competition is a great incentive for students
In turn, Chairwoman of the Chemistry Department at the College of Sciences, Dr. Manal Dagestani, thanked the Refinery for launching the green competition, which encouraged students and gave them ambition and hope.
Dr. Dagestani said that the competition is a great and powerful incentive for students, and that the rewards encourage them more and give them hope that there will be a job opportunity after graduation.
( Raising a generation aware of the importance of preserving the environment)
Director of Damascus Petrochemical Refinery Company, Abu Ammar, stressed that the celebration was a crowning for the students’ efforts and the research presented by them, which dealt with lubricating oils, the environment, chemical products, and others related to the company’s work.
Abu Ammar added that some of the students’ research rises to a high level, and the company had to honor the winners for their efforts, noting that the event is a destination to honor the professors and students who have produced an added value to this project, and we keep up with everything new in the scientific field.
New competitions and seminars for students
For her part, Director of Public Relations at the Refinery, Julia Awad, said that nearly 100 students participated in the competition, 13 of whom won, “three of them came first, second, and third,” in addition to ten selected articles.
Awad thanked the committee supervising the competition, who provided all forms of support to students to answer inquiries about the competition.
She pointed out that there will be other competitions and seminars for students in the college, in addition to organizing scientific and practical trips to the Refinery’s headquarters in Dmeir.
Winners of the green competition are honored
The students who won the green competition expressed their happiness with this participation, wishing the company to launch new competitions.
The two students who won the first place, Ahmed Al-Kayyal and Mohab Al-Turkmani, said that the competition was a challenge in searching for information, getting it from documented sources and translating it, since most of it is in a foreign language, and the method of linking ideas and presenting them in a systematic and coherent manner and within a specific number of pages.
Winners of the green competition and professors honored
During the celebration, director of the Refinery presented honorary shields to the Rector of Damascus University, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, and Head of the Chemistry Department for their efforts in providing facilities and cooperation with the company, then he honored the winning students and offered them financial prizes.
At the end of the celebration , the Refinery held a competition for the audience who are present in the amphitheater, which included scientific questions, and immediate financial prizes were awarded to the winners.
